Calling for Participants: Stakeholder Consultative Workshop on River Pollution

Calling for Participants: Stakeholder Consultative Workshop on River Pollution

Venue: DEWAN BAIDURI, Natural Resources and Environment, Putrajaya

Date: 27th May 2013

Fee: RM50.00 (MyWP Members) and RM80.00 (Non-MyWP Members)

There have been many dialogues and seminars on river pollution in the past 20 years or so. Generally everyone agrees that as a country, we desperately need to do something about the sad state of our rivers, especially when we hope to achieve developed nation status by 2020. However,  we have not been successful in translating consensus at these  forums into changes on the ground.

MyWP is embarking on a new strategy to achieve that: by proposing changes at the highest level of committees chaired by the Prime Minister/Deputy Prime Minister and attended by Menteri Besar/Chief Minister e.g. Majlis Sumber Air Negara (MSAN) or Majlis Negara Kerajaan Tempatan (MNKT).

This has been proven successful in previous cases e.g. ESCP requirement for all earthworks. In this workshop, 16 of the biggest sources of pollution for rivers have been identified and new policies have been proposed to deal with them. All these will be explained further in the workshop.
